12 JUST (OR JUST ABOUT) FINISHED YA SERIES FOR SUMMER 2016
Teen Series for Summer

Intro

The much-anticipated conclusions to these popular series are here! (Or near.)

Summer is approaching and what better time to get sucked into a great YA book series?  Long days at the beach and road trips just aren't the same if you're not glued to an addictive book.

The first ten series on this list will wrap up before or during summer, which is a relief for those who dread the wait in between book releases.  The last two will conclude in fall.  While not ideal for die-hard fans, a couple month's wait is easier to withstand than a whole year of anticipation.

4. The Winner’s Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski

Book 1: The Winner’s Curse
Book 2: The Winner’s Crime
Book 3: Winner’s Kiss (Published: March, 2016)

Lady Kestrel is bound for either marriage or a military career, but doesn’t care for either.  Her passion is for music.  When she impulsively buys the slave Arin for far too much money, she becomes the target of rumors, which worsen as she’s seen too often in Arin’s presence.  A relationship between the two would be forbidden by their society.  And yet, despite their many differences, Lady Kestrel and Arin begin to develop feelings for each other, which begin with respect and begin to evolve into something greater.

Set in a richly built fantasy world, fully rounded characters and a complex social and political environment elevate this series beyond a simple romance.

When the boy from the church yard shows up at the diner where Blue works, the fates seem set in motion as Blue’s life becomes entangled with the lives of four Raven Boys – a nickname for the privileged students that attend the nearby Aglionby Academy.  Soon Blue, Gansey, and his three friends share the missions surrounding Gansey’s obsession to seek out the “sleeping” Welsh King, Glendower, who, it is said will grant a favor to the person who wakes him.

8. The Selection by Kiera Cass

Book 1: The Selection
Book 2: The Elite
Book 3: The One
Book 4: The Heir
Book 5: The Crown (Published: 5/3/16)

Against her wishes, America Singer enters a nationwide drawing to be a contestant in the Selection, a competition where young women have a chance to win the heart of the handsome Prince Maxon.  Any girl would dream of such a chance – to be dressed in beautiful gowns, surrounded by the glamor of the palace.  Any girl, that is, except America.  She can’t stomach the event's ostentation, and more than anything, her heart belongs to Aspen.

When she’s chosen to participate in the Selection, the one satisfaction that America clings to is the money that goes home to her family so long as she is a contestant.  In America’s world, with a government enforced caste system, a family of artists such as hers barely makes enough money for food.  However, as the contest continues, she begins to realize that Prince Maxon is not the spoiled child she first took him for.

In a violent world, where people are not what they appear, there is one rule – trust no one.

11. Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Book 1: Six of Crows
Book 2: Crooked Kingdom (Published:  September, 2016)

Taking place in a richly built fantasy world, Six of Crows begins with criminal mastermind Kaz Brekker coming across the ultimate score.  He knows just who to call on to pull it off – a band of misfits who don’t always get along, but know how to get the job done.  Their individual skills range from acrobatics to magical healing powers to engineering skills and more.  There’s a mind-blowing sum of cash waiting on their success, but only if they can break into the world’s most secure prison, find the chemist whose invention has the power to sway military fortunes, and then break the chemist, and themselves, out again.

12. The Young Elites by Marie Lu

Book 1: The Young Elites
Book 2: The Rose Society
Book 3: The Midnight Star

Sixteen year old Adelina Amouteru survived blood fever as a child, but was left marked by the disease.  Like other blood fever survivors, called malfettos, the color of her hair changed and she was scarred.  Some malfettos are believed to possess great, unnatural powers, which the king fears could be dangerous.  The government has thus employed the Inquisition Axis to find and destroy these Young Elites.

Adelina has suffered abuse from her father for years.  As she discovers that she bears not just the scars, but also gifts as a result of her disease, she suddenly becomes more powerful than the abuser of her past.  Yet, at the same time, she finds herself  vulnerable to powers greater than her own.

Hi Emily! Thank you!! :D I'm super excited about a bunch of these too. I've been waiting on Calamity and The Raven King forever! I haven't wanted to start on some of the other series until they were complete -- can't stand the suspense otherwise. :) I just started (and read through) the Lunar Chronicles for that very reason. So good!

Thanks Mother of 3! :)

A Note: This post is linked to Literary Musing Mondays, The Homeschool Nook, Mommy Monday Blog Hop, and the Homeschool Link-Up.

The Raven Cycle and The Six of Crows Duo-logy are the best series for me. The writing in both these books is very different but both very beautiful. *Fingers Crossed* for the Giveaway!!!

Hi Adreana! Totally agree about The Raven Cycle. Soooo, so good. I haven't read Six of Crows yet. I just started the Grisha trilogy so that I'm ready for Six of Crows. I wish you luck on the giveaway! :D
